Xiaomi Redmi K90 Max: The Affordable Gaming Phone with Built-in Fan

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi K90 Max, a gaming smartphone boasting flagship-level features designed to compete directly with the RedMagic 11 Pro, but at a significantly lower price point.

The device features a 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2772×1280 pixels and a refresh rate of 165 Hz. The screen covers the full DCI-P3 color space, achieves a peak brightness of up to 3500 nits, and supports Dolby Vision, ensuring vibrant visuals.

At the heart of the Redmi K90 Max is a powerful 8550 mAh battery, supporting fast charging at 100W. Audio is delivered through stereo speakers enhanced by Bose’s sound optimization. The smartphone also boasts water and dust resistance, conforming to IP66/IP68/IP69 standards.

Priced at 3499 yuan (approximately $513) for the base model with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, the Redmi K90 Max offers a more budget-friendly option compared to the RedMagic 11 Pro, which starts at 4999 yuan (around $733) for similar specifications.

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip paired with Xiaomi’s D2 graphics module, the Redmi K90 Max scores 4,161,374 points on AnTuTu v11. For context, the iQOO 15 Ultra, a top performer, scores an average of 4,174,911 points. Users can choose configurations featuring either 12 GB or 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage options ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB.

A standout feature of this model is its integrated fan, which Xiaomi claims is one of the most efficient cooling systems available in smartphones. The fan features enlarged blades and innovative air channels to improve heat dissipation, maintaining stable processor performance even during extensive gaming sessions. Additionally, Xiaomi has fine-tuned certain AAA games to run at approximately 165 frames per second at 1.5K resolution.

The rear houses a dual-camera setup, including a 50-megapixel main sensor with optical image stabilization and 13.2 exposure stops, supplemented by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. For selfies, a 20-megapixel front-facing camera is available.

The release of the Redmi Turbo 5 series, starting at $287 with configurations reaching up to a 9000 mAh battery, further highlights Xiaomi’s dedication to offering diverse options for gaming enthusiasts.
