Spotify has teamed up with the beverage brand Liquid Death to unveil the Eternal Playlist Urn, a Bluetooth speaker designed to resemble a funeral urn.
“Music is the best thing in life, and now it can be the best in death too. Enhance any posthumous experience with this death revolution,” reads a joint Instagram post by Spotify and Liquid Death.
The speaker, approximately 18×29 cm in size, is crafted entirely from polyester resin and weighs around 1 kg. It features a wireless Bluetooth speaker and a USB-C charging cable housed in its lid. The creators emphasize that the urn is not intended for storing ashes. Produced in limited quantities, each unit may have minor imperfections, adding to its uniqueness.
Despite its intriguing concept, the device raises several questions. For instance, there are doubts about the sound quality of a Bluetooth speaker enclosed within a polyester resin urn. Furthermore, the manufacturers have not disclosed much technical information about the device. Details such as battery life, driver specifications, and additional features remain unspecified. It is only noted that the speaker has at least one power button and an LED indicator to show charging or connection status.

The limited edition speaker is marketed as a collectible item with streaming capabilities. In the United States, only 150 units have been released, each priced at $495. The makers promote the Eternal Playlist Urn as the “world’s first streaming music urn,” positioning it as a way to enjoy favorite tracks beyond the grave.
Owners of the device can create a personalized “eternal playlist” by answering questions about their favorite songs. Based on these responses and listening history, Spotify generates a custom playlist that can be shared with loved ones or played on the speaker.
Spotify has also launched group chats for up to 10 people.
