Amazon Prime has released the inaugural image from the God of War series, showcasing Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus.
The initial episodes of the series will be directed by Frederick Toye, known for his work on “Shogun,” “The Boys,” and “Fallout.” Filming for the God of War series is set to commence in March in Vancouver, although the premiere date remains undisclosed.
Previously, it was noted that Ryan Hurst is no stranger to the world of film and television. He is recognized for his roles as Gerry Bertier in the movie “Remember the Titans” and Harry “Opie” Winston in the series “Sons of Anarchy,” where he appeared for five seasons. Now, he transitions from one iconic character to the role of Kratos.

The cast also includes Ed Skrein as Baldur, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Max Parker as Heimdall, and Teresa Palmer as Sif. Returning actors include Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn as Brok, and Jeff Gulka as Sindri.

Sony and Amazon have agreed on adapting two seasons of the popular PlayStation game inspired by Norse mythology. Scripted by showrunner and executive producer Ronald Moore, “God of War” narrates the journey of father and son, Kratos and Atreus, as they embark on a quest to scatter the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their shared adventures, Kratos aims to teach his son the ways of a better god, while Atreus helps his father become a better man.
Despite being somewhat distant from the gaming industry, Ronald Moore promises an epic journey intertwined with a touching narrative. Amazon has also expanded the writing team, enlisting Tanya Lotia, known for her work on “The Witcher” and “Invincible.” The series was first announced in December 2022, but two years later, showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus departed the project after the initial scripts were completed.
Amazon aims to make the God of War series inclusive and diverse, with casting details hinting at nudity.
