  • AMD Unveils World’s First Dual 3D V-Cache CPU: The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 with 208 MB Cache and 200W TDP

AMD has officially launched its latest processor, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition. Rumors regarding this model have been circulating since last year, and the company has finally confirmed its existence.

The standout feature of the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is its dual-chiplet design, utilizing AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology. According to the company, this marks the debut of the world’s first desktop processor of its kind.

The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition will hit the market on April 22nd, though its pricing remains undisclosed at the moment.

This new processor is built on the Zen 5 architecture and manufactured using a 4nm process. It is intended for use with the AM5 platform. The processor boasts a total of 16 computing cores, supporting 32 threads, and features a combined cache of 208 MB—the largest ever seen in the history of Ryzen chips. The cache includes 1280 KB of L1, 16 MB of L2, and a substantial 192 MB of L3. The cores operate at a base frequency of 4.3 GHz, with a Boost frequency of up to 5.6 GHz, and the processor has a TDP rating of 200W.

Regarding availability, AMD will offer the Ryzen 7 9850X3D bundled with memory and a cooler for $1000.

According to AMD, the new Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 delivers a 5-10% performance increase over the Ryzen 9 9950X3D in creative tasks, such as DaVinci Resolve and Blender, as well as during large-scale code compilations like Unreal Engine and Chromium. Moreover, the increased cache size is expected to enhance gaming performance.

  • AMD Releases SDK 2.2 with Advanced FSR 4.1 Support

AMD has introduced the latest SDK FSR 2.2 for developers, featuring innovative neural rendering technology, FSR 4.1, and Ray Regeneration 1.1.

The updated FSR Ray Regeneration 1.1 focuses on enhancing image quality and optimizing memory usage, alongside offering debug view modes. AMD has shared visuals of SR Ray Regeneration 1.1 using screenshots from the game Crimson Desert. The FSR SDK 2.2 binary files and a limited source code version are accessible on GitHub.

Recently, AMD also launched the Adrenalin Edition 26.3.1 WHQL driver package, supporting FSR 4.1 for Radeon RX 9000 graphics cards.

Previous reports mentioned that the new Optiscaler version optimizes FSR 4 for older AMD graphics cards on RDNA 2 architecture. AMD has officially unveiled the next-generation Fidelity Super Resolution, codenamed Diamond.

FSR Upscaling 4.1 offers superior image quality, particularly in dynamic scenes, through improved data processing, resulting in sharper visuals. The update also addresses ultra-high performance modes and dynamic resolution scaling (DRS). An AMD example showcases these advancements with frames from Pearl Abyss’s recently released game, Crimson Desert.

For Shader Model 6.6 support, DirectX 12 Agility SDK version 1.4.9 or later is required. Supported graphics APIs and engines include DirectX 12 and the FSR plugin for Unreal Engine 5, with scaling and frame generation capabilities. Currently, AMD FSR for Unreal Engine 5 utilizes FSR Upscaling 4.0.3 technology, which will be upgraded to version 4.1 soon.

    Supported graphics processors include:

Neural rendering enhances real-time graphics, enabling developers to achieve elevated image quality and performance. The FSR “Redstone” upscaling technology integrates machine learning, analytical scaling capabilities, frame generation, ray tracing, noise reduction, and lighting improvements.

The SDK FSR 2.2 package is designed to assist developers in reaching a broader audience and enhancing gaming experiences for millions of AMD graphics card owners, from PCs to gaming consoles. It consists of four neural rendering features optimized for GPUs on the RDNA 4 architecture, including scaling, frame generation, ray tracing, and brightness caching.

FSR Upscaling technology represents AMD’s latest upscaler, offering significant image quality improvements over previous FSR generations. It leverages neural networks to reconstruct images from lower resolutions that match or exceed native rendering quality.

AMD FSR Ray Regeneration uses machine learning-based real-time noise reduction, compatible with any game engine. It delivers high-quality visualization by denoising input from ray tracing, requiring GPUs built on the RDNA 4 architecture. This technology works optimally with other FSR “Redstone” technologies, transforming noisy ray tracing outputs into clear, coherent images.

The AMD RDNA 5 feature is expected to double performance.
